A Birthday, a Business, and Big Reflections

While I’m always sharing tips and insights to support small business owners, today I’m hitting pause and reflecting, sharing a little bit about myself. Last week I had a big birthday and in the same month, my business hit its most profitable milestone yet. The June energy was absolutely manic!

This month has felt like a shift. Like the next season, or door opening to something new (like a new decade perhaps?) and for the first time in a long time, I feel somewhat aligned and energized about what’s ahead. All of this forward momentum has me reflecting a lot on how I got to this point.

From Retail to Realizing My Strengths

My very first college/ out of college job was managing a retail store as the assistant visual manager. I got to be creative with displays and loved leading a team. Even then, I was the go-to person for hiring. I loved interviewing, mentoring, and helping people grow.

I didn’t know at the time that that was a whole career.

That passion for working with people led me to get my certificate in Human Capital Management from NYU and explore people-focused roles across different industries. I discovered that I wasn’t just good at HR because I could implement systems—I was good at it because people trusted me. Because I listened.

Making the Leap

After a decade of in-house HR roles, I hit a wall. To employees, I was often seen as the one who was going to ruin your good time, and also left out of leadership decisions, and asked to do things that felt wildly out of line with my values. After being let go from a job because the business owner just didn’t like me (yep, that happens), I hit a breaking point.

And I said: F*ck this. Let’s start my own thing.

I didn't overthink it. I didn't spend months planning. I went on adrenaline, instinct, and a little bit of fear. I’d always dreamed of being a business owner—I just never imagined it would look like this.

Money has always been something I worried about, and I have always taken immense pride in my independence, so the idea of entrepreneurship felt risky. I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me. I made the decision to not let fear hold me back, trusted my gut, and kept moving forward anyway.

What Makes Me Different

Now, as an HR consultant and coach, I bring a progressive, empathetic, and creative approach to people strategy. I believe in:

  • Ethical leadership

  • Positive reinforcement

  • Finding real-world, not one-size-fits-all solutions

  • Understanding people’s strengths and helping them grow

My clients appreciate that I listen, that I don’t judge, and that I help them navigate leadership with confidence.

And honestly? I just love who I work with.

More recently, I’ve really fallen in love with the coaching aspect-  helping teams figure out how to work better together—by understanding how they operate, communicate, and motivate.

There are so many things I wish I could tell my younger self, but mostly: Trust yourself. Keep moving forward.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Just stay in motion.

And don’t let fear call the shots.

What’s Next

In this next chapter, I’m building out my coaching practice with a focus on CliftonStrengths team training and individual coaching. I want to help people tap into what lights them up, build positive workplaces, and lead in ways that feel good—not forced.

I’m leaning into my own strengths (Positivity is in my top 10, of course) and embracing this season of joy, clarity, and momentum.

Thank you for following along on this journey with me, can’t wait to see what’s next!
